Going on holiday with a handbike: this is how it works!

When travelling with your handbike or power assist device, there are some important points to consider. We will help you understand the necessary steps and requirements to make your journey as smooth as possible.

First things first, the transport of your adaptive device must be registered with the airline before you travel. We strongly recommend that you obtain written confirmation, a copy of which you carry with you during your journey. If you have a device with a rechargeable battery, this must be mentioned. In the case of Stricker power assist devices and handbikes, these can be disconnected from the device itself.

The carriage of rechargeable batteries in the aircraft is subject to strict rules. Within the scope of a mobility aid, up to two rechargeable batteries may be transported as additional hand luggage. Please note that the capacity of each battery must not exceed 300 Wh. Your adaptive device will be checked in as bulky baggage and stowed in the hold of the aircraft. Make sure that you adequately protect your handbike or power assist device.

During transport, the frame may occasionally become misaligned. Carry suitable tools for this case. A ratchet with a 6mm nut is sufficient in most cases. Instructions on how to align the frame can be found on our website or in the instruction manual of your adaptation device.

If you need the power assist device or handbike immediately after disembarking from the aircraft, you must also discuss this with the airline. In these cases, some airlines are willing to bring the adaptive device to the exit of the aircraft.

Otherwise, you will receive your handbike or power assist device at the bulky baggage counter at your destination airport.

It is important that you report any damage that occurred during transport to the airline immediately and then make a claim. In this case, please contact your airline or travel company for more detailed information.

You will find rechargeable batteries suitable for travel in our product range. We wish you a good journey.
